Now, I know some people seem to think the settlers aren't illegal, but that's just more reason to negotiate with Israel to get rid of them.

We must remember here a couple of things here: not every Palestinian in Israeli prisoners are there as a political prisoner. You're not a political prisoner because you are in a prison for a crime you committed for political reasons. 
A political prisoner is a person who is in jail WITHOUT COMMITTING A CRIME.
Also, it doesn't matter if you think the crime shouldn't be a crime. If a country's legislation says it's a crime to incite violence against certain people - which is something most Western countries' legislation says, and I think it is as it should be - then it is a crime to tell people to take on weapons, stones if nothing else is at hands, and march against the police, army and government forces, and praise a suicide bomber for his courage in fight against the oppressors. Also, according to Geneva Convention fighting against the enemy without "flying colors", that is, with no recognizable uniform and insignia - makes you an unlawful combattant. All saboteurs, resistanse fighters and spies are counted in to this category, and the enemy has the right to shoot you on spot. So - all the Palestinians who are members of any militant resistance group are also unlawful combattants; not civilians and not innocent. You don't need to be a terrorist or suicide bomber, or even DO anything else but join the group.
This makes most of the Palestinians - even women and some children - into criminals and not political prisoners. Now, I know there are some people who are in jails because they are someone's brother, mother, sister or wife, because someone with the same name did something, because someone said you did something, and those people shouldn't be in jail. So what about negotiating about those people's release?

What about taking down the military siege of Gaza, so that ships can start bringing in things?
 And that Palestinian fishermen can take up their occupation again, and start feeding their families, and that Gazans can start selling their agricultural products straight to Europe and North Africa...

What about allowing planes to Westbank and Gaza? What about building a new airport to West Bank and Gaza, so that people don't need to go to Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv when they want to travel to and from Palestine?
What about stopping the air patrolling of the Palestine?

What about allowing Palestinian citizens to travel freely without consent from Israel?

What about allowing the Palestinians living NOW in Israel full citizenship with all the rights and privileges?
Like being able to marry who ever you want and see that your husband/wife can move together with you and live with you, so that you won't need to visit your spouse in militarily occupied territories and wait hours on the border for nothing?

What about allowing Palestinians to IMMIGRATE to Israel as normal human beings? 
I mean, as the Palestinians complain that their old villages have been demolished, no-one is living in their old homes and so on, it shouldn't be a problem to buy them back.
What is money? Nothing. If every pro-Palestinian donated just a dollar, or the richer donated two to cover for the poor ones, we could easily collect the money needed for the purchases. After all, that's how the Jews got the money to buy land in Palestine before -48. With a little help from friends.
And the "disgrace" of "needing to buy back something that belongs to me"? Some things have emotional value higher than all the monetary means in the world. What wouldn't you pay for the joy of being back where you belong? What wouldn't you pay for the right to look anyone in the eyes and say "This is mine. I bought it - TWICE". What is important here, that you get what you want, or that you are GIVEN what you want? If it is an apology you wait, you may have to wait for the rest of the eternity. If it is that Israelis leave the country or say they stole it, that you might have to wait even longer. I know you think I'm just another pro-Israeli idiot, but think about it a little. What is important here? Some empty words everyone knows mean nothing, or that you get back home? That your children grow up in the same place where their forefathers grew up, that they can stop calling themselves refugees?

I am an expatriate. I am Finnish, living in Sweden. Remember that Finland was occupied by Sweden from 1249 to 1809, and after that by Russia, until 1917 when Finland became independent.

What about building a railroad from Westbank to Gaza? 
What about guaranteeing a safe passage of people, wares, water and electricity between these two parts of Palestine?

What about allowing Palestinians to visit any holy places in Israel without harassment?

What about peace, recognition and end of occupation?
What about water?

What about jobs?
What about hospitals?
What about schools?

Obviously none of those issues is important, or even interesting for Palestinian authority. I don't get how they think. To me all of those questions are more important than the return of fabricated "refugees", control of a city or some old lines on paper. On the other hand, Finland was occupied FOR 700 YEARS. I suppose that puts the independence, sovereignty, freedom and peace in a very different perspective.

Yes, fabricated refugees - Palestinians are the ONLY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD where descendants are counted as refugees. EVERY OTHER PEOPLE IN THE WORLD must be "1st generation refugee", Palestinians are "2nd", "3rd" and now even "4th generation refugees". The true number of Palestinian refugees was about 800.000 1947 and 300.000 1967, and most of them have died by now. Nevertheless, UNRWA (also something specific for the Palestinian people... For some reason I don't think it is because the world sees Palestinians are more worthy people than all the other people in the world...  I have easier to believe it has something to do with their oppressors than themselves... easier to believe it is a show of antisemitism - that JEWS doing bad things are WORSE than ANYONE ELSE doing bad things, so the Jews' victims must have a special status as well...)

People keep asking what right does Israel have to exist. No other, but the right of self-determination. The only right Palestine has to exist.

I ask you what right the Palestinians have to Jerusalem? It has never been the capital of Palestine, but it was and is the capital of Judea... So what right do the Palestinians have to it, and why do they insist on having it?

The "lines on paper" are not fair and there is no reason what so ever to hang on them... the borders need to be drawn anew and better this time, taking under consideration the holy sites of both sides, water resources, agricultural resources and neighbors, and both people's wishes.
Remember that the Arabs didn't accept the lines on paper when Israel was given LESS than "pre-67 borders", they didn't make Palestine independent when THEY had the controll of the area - so why are they so adamant about it now? There is only one possible answer to that question. The Arabs don't want a Jewish state in Middle East. The Arabs want only Arab states in Middle East. They don't even accept the Palestinians were a people of their own, to Arabs "Palestinian" is an Arab living in British Palestine West of Jordan. Now, if Palestinians are Arabs, they DON*T have the "right to self-determination", as there already is several countries where the Arabs express their "right to self-determination"...

Now, I know how strong a power ultra-nationalism and antisemitism can be, so I can understand the Arab position and unwillingness to get a working solution to this problem, but what is incomprehensible to me, is that the whole world just accepts the Palestinian version of the story... I suppose it is because 1/3 of the world is Muslim, the Arabs are a real power in the world. (Not the Jews. Come on! 13.000.000 people of whom 99% is either religious scholars or scientists, women, children or elderly. The world's richest man, Carlos Slim Helú is of Lebanese origin, and not a Jew. And what about those oil sheiks? Not Jewish, not one of them, but damn they are rich... nevertheless people are talking about Jews and money. Not about the Arabs and money... And the newspapers? Who reads newspapers anymore? And who believes everthing what is said in news? Not anyone capable of independent thinking and at least some ability to use the different media available today. And even if you seriously believe the Protocolls of the Elders of Zion's "money and media" conspiracy, as every man and their dog is online and publishing more information (most of it naturally false and pure fiction), no-one has the time or capacity to controll the media today.

If Jim finds the Jewish morality "alien", he shouldn't be Christian.

It really is a shame that these people are allowed to bring in revenues to good white universities and thus infect all the future scientists with their poison... Except that... isn't the idea of a University very Jewish by nature, if not by origin? The idea of learning, focus on knowledge... and they did study Jewish scriptures in the early universities, reading and writing, and other such non-white ideas... I have to say, better be on the safe side and send all the universities to Israel as well. Can't think of anything connected to Universities that would not fit the plan presented in the PEZ. 


After all, what do "white people" do with such things as medicine, physics, chemistry and literature anyway? The "white medicine" is enough for the "white man" - herbs, sauna (the Finnish), alcohol, tar and blood letting took well care of the White People already at the Middle Ages, what do the White Man does with some non-white ideas like surgery and vaccination? Let the God given diseases take care of the weak and unworthy to live, as it was meant to be.

Nevertheless, I fully agree that all the foreign influences all around the world should be send "back home" where their ancestors once came from. The home of the White People is Europe. Not North America, not Australia, not Africa nor Asia. Europe, and only Europe. Tough luck, Jimmy-boy. Your ancestors should have let the red people live with other red people, and not forced their unwanted presence on people of other color. Come home, and then you can start yapping about "foreign influences" and against multiculturalism and diversity :-D You are living on someone else's land, and that land doesn't belong to White People.

Why Palestine should be recognized

These are just loose thoughts I have been playing with, based on the "stupid" idea that people appreciate peace more than some material things like "who lives in the place my great-grandfather planted his olive trees", and that the national self determination is more important than nationalism. 

The most important reason is naturally that Palestine wants to be an independent state. I am all for the national self determination, how ever one defines the nation. But there are other reasons, reasons that would be beneficial for the whole world and humankind.

As it is now, there has never been an independent state of Palestine. This is the reason to why there are a number of UN security council resolutions concerning Israel but none concerning the state of Palestine. To remove this unbalance, we need to have an independent Palestine.

Israel must stop the violations of human rights and remove all the roadblocks and Jewish settlements inside Palestine, whether Palestine is independent or not. It might be easier for Israel to do, if it was compensated in other areas.

Of course, Palestine would have to follow the suit and remove all the Palestinian settlements inside Israel and give up all the demands to Israeli lands and "right to return".

That would solve the Palestinian refugee problem once and for all. UNRWA would not be needed anymore, which would save thousands of dollars of UN money, and the "Palestinian refugee camps" would be recognized as the villages, towns and cities they are.

As it is now, Israel is holding hundreds of Palestinians prisoners. Feeding and housing these people are costing a lot to the Israeli government. If Palestine was independent, they could just send these people home.

Of course, Palestine would need to send back the Israelis they are holding, among others Gilad Shalit. About 2/3 of Israelis think no price is too high to get him back home, so the Israeli government would win a huge political victory.

Also, if Israel releases the Palestinian prisoners as normal prisoner exchange between two independent states, it would not give the message to terrorists that it is a good idea to kidnap Israelis.

Domestic terrorism is quite different issue than foreign terrorism or acts of war between two independent states. If Palestine was an independent state, recognised by the world community, there would be different expectations and rules concerning Israel-Palestine relations. An independent Palestine would act as an automatic peace treaty, and every hostile act after that would be considered as initiating hostilities, not as act of self-defense. If Palestine was independent, every rocket, every bullet, even stones thrown over the border, would be acts of war, could be taken as declaration of war, which would give Israel right to defend itself. The same way, every Israeli transgression over the border would be act of war as well.

There is only one problem here. The UN partition plan as well as the pre-1967 borders are both unacceptable.

Whole Judea should belong to the Jews (by the "It's called PALESTINE" logic). (Judea's Northern border goes from Mediterranean to Jordan at Jerusalem's height). Gaza doesn't belong to Judea, as it is the original Philistea (Palestine). This way the Jews would get the control of their two holiest cities, Jerusalem and Hebron. The Muslims have Mecca and Medina, their Holiest cities, so it's just fair that the Jews have the Jewish Holiest cities.

Palestinians should get Galilee up to Syrian border, and thus control most of the Christian holy sites, like Bethlehem, Nazareth, Lake Gennesaret, Magdala and "Armageddon" (Megiddo) and thus get all the tourist income from the Christian Holy Land tourists. They would also get the control of the most important water sources of the whole Levant; Golan, Nablus Giboa (Northern Mountain Aquifer), Sea of Galilee and upper Jordan (upper Western Mountain Aquifer).
This would not only give them the control of water, but a bigger and better land than what they would lose to Israel. The Southern areas of current West-Bank are mostly rocky mountains

As Galilee gives Israel more than half of its water, Israel should get a full control of Yarkon-Tanninim (Western Mountain Aquifer) and lower Jordan (lower Western Mountain Aquifer). Full control means in this case that the borders need to be drawn so the whole area where the aquifer lies belongs to respective countries, so that one country cannot deplete or destroy the water for the other. The Coastal Aquifer would be shared with Gaza, as it is today.

That would also obsolete Israel's water deal with Jordan, Syria and Palestine, and Jordan, Syria and Israel would need to negotiate with Palestinians about that issue. Sitting on the main water resources of the whole area would give Palestinians very good negotiation ground.

Now, I'm really worried about this, because the Palestinians haven't shown much ability of managing the scarce water resources they have - it has been more "this way it has always been done, even when there were 1/10 of people living in this area, and this is the way we will do it for ever more, even when we are slowly poisoning the water resources". If they follow that thinking, they will be sitting on poison in 10 years, in stead of something really valuable. But, who knows. The water resources of Levant are not enough for the population as it is, so we need to find ways of cleaning water in any case. We need desalination plants for Negev and Gaza, and find a way to adjust the Fremen water policies for the rest of Levant. (Fremens are the invented people from the desert planet Arrakis, from Frank Herbert's scifi classic The Dune. Their water policy involves circulating all water - including your urine, tears, sweat, saliva and the tiny amount of water in your breath.) Israelis are rather brilliant in finding solutions to problems of this kind, and if they lost the aquifers of Galilee, they would have to use this brilliance and the money given to them by USA to create water technology, not war technology.

Also, it would fall to Egypt to see Gazans get what they need, and Syria and Jordan to see Palestine gets what it needs, if Israel became an equal neighbor in stead of a suzerain "occupier". That would also make the wall acceptable in principle, as it would then be a "normal" border wall. One independent state has no obligations to allow the citizens of another independent state to cross the border to work or tend their lands. The wall needs to come down anyway, because it's in wrong place. If Israel gets the Western Mountain Aquifer as compensation for the loss of the rich water resources of Northern Israel - which they should - the wall would be in Israeli territory, and not on the border of Israel and Palestine.

Now, I don't think people are ready to look at Israel-Palestine from an intelligent point of view. There's too much emotions involved, and too many people use the situation as political game piece, totally in spite of all the misery caused by this. If people were just a little bit more interested in peace and development, life and the common good, in stead of history, Nazi "Greater Homeland" ideology, stubborn insisting of how things should be done (Come on! 1967 borders? I am a middle aged woman and I wasn't even born then. Neither was 2/3 of Palestinians.) in stead of trying to find totally new, better and more functional solutions, and mourning over past unjustices, whining and complaining, and demanding compensation for something that happened long ago.

If Shoah doesn't count, Nakba doesn't count either.

Should Christians respect President Obama?

There is a piece of writing circulating on-line. I received it today. Most people spreading it refuse to answer any responses :-D Cowards, I say. Well... doesn't save them.

Firstly, it's not said nor written by David Barton. I wasn't aware that spreading rumors, urban legends and hoaxes is part of these "Judeo-Christian values of Founding Fathers", but... on the other hand... that's one part of what made Washington such a brilliant general :-D (I would like it if people removed the "Judeo" part of this, and spoke only about their own faith and values. The Jewish and Christians values are not the same.)

I read a lot about homeschooling yesterday, and one of the things that Christians wish to teach their children is respect of each other. They say:

   5. Everything God created has value

Now, if this person calling him/herself Christian says s/he consciously chooses NOT to respect a man, simply because s/he disagrees with him, and about politics and money, of all issues, how do you think you COULD teach your children true respect of others. As far as I understand, these seven principles can be put simply thus:
we are to respect others because
a) God created everything, even President Obama,
b) what God created has a value and
c) that value is good, even if we cannot see it, We should trust and love God enough to not question Him.

I'm sorry, but if I was Christian, I would look at what this person says through the Bible and not through my political opinions, and realize that s/he is NOT saying things Christians should even listen to, and definitely not spread.
God has given the Christians brains and heart and the Bible. I wish they'd use those to for themselves decide what is good and what not, and don't just follow some populist orator. I am not asking anyone to agree with President Obama, but what ever he is, he IS your brother, your neighbor, your kin, God's creation and a human. As a Christian you should LOVE him for that, and that alone, and with love follows respect.
I don't think one really loves the person one calls "the embodiment of Evil!" :-D

Then about paying the taxes, what ever they are.

This is what JESUS says about that thing:

"Tell us therefore, What think you? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why tempt you me, you hypocrites? Show me the tribute money." And they brought to him a penny.
And he said to them, "Whose is this image and superscription?"
They say unto him, "Caesar's".
Then saith he unto them, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's."

If you look at any American coin or bill it says "United States of America". It's not YOUR money, it's USA's money, so give it to USA, and you know as well as I do, that USA means the government. If your elected "emperor" wants to collect taxes, give him them.

"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. "

If he wants your money, give it to him. Better to get rid of the damned thing anyway, so why not give it to someone you think is as damned... or do you really think your money is more worth than God created human being?

And not your country and God, or your party and God, or your minister and God or... You have to choose.

Sounds to me that who ever wrote this (and who ever is sending it on and spreading it) is trying to lure the Christian Republicans away from God, to Mammon. The whole writing reeks love of money, love of nation, country, land and love of political party...  loving earthly things more than your neighbor/enemy/next of kin/another human being. I really don't think Jesus told you to do that...
Are you going to make the same choice?
Are you going to continue encouraging your fellow Christians to follow the person who wrote this and not Jesus?

Just think about it.

P.S. Why do the Republicans have the need to put God's name everywhere except in their hearts? If it WAS in their hearts, they wouldn't need to force everyone else to look at it and listen to it :-D

USA DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT

Orson Scott Card wrote an essay about Israel, Iran and Obama. And it's like... OMG. F. Dang.

Orson, If you define "evil" as "willing to kill anyone to remake the world as they think it should be", then you are evil. You are just trying to get USA do your dirty work, and kill enough Iranians to make the world as you think it should be.

I'm sorry to say this, but
USA DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO BLACKMAIL ANY OTHER COUNTRY TO DO THEIR WILL,
HOW EVER PROBABLE IT IS THAT IT WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS, HOW EVER BIG PROBLEMS.

No-one has the right to "prevent" others from perhaps doing what we think is wrong. The legal system of a country shouldn't be working like in Minority Report.
We cannot and may not be punished for what we think or say, only for what we do.
No-one, not USA, not UN, not anyone, has the right to force Iran to do - or not do - anything. On the contrary, AS IT IS NOW, USA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANKIND WHO HAS USED NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN WAR AGAINST ANOTHER NATION. USA is the last country to tell anyone else not to do the same.

If - or when - Iran attacks Israel, THEN the rest of the world may react. Not before.

I can understand that it is horrible for someone just to sit on their hands and watch how other people go on with their plans that to us seem very risky, dangerous, even lunatic, but unfortunately, just as no-one had the right to stop the Texan idiot from burning Qurans, no-one has the right to stop the Tehran idiots from building nuclear power plants and bombs, or even from using them.

If you think it's your DUTY to violate other people's human rights to make their own choices, that it would be HONORABLE...? Then I have to say it is YOU who have no idea of what honor is.

Tel Aviv is just a city. It celebrated its 100 birthday last year. It can be built again, just as Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It will be built again.

The Germans managed to kill more than half of the world's Jewish population only some 70 years ago. The Jewish people still exists, and will exist.

Some say Israel only exists because of what happened during WWII, and that today there is no real threat against Israel. If Iran was to attack Israel with nuclear weapons, it would prove to the world that Israel does have a real threat against its existence. That all the Anti-Israelis were wrong, and the people defending Israel's right to exist were right. It would not wipe Israel off the world map. It would cement Israel on it.

It is better for everyone is Iran is allowed to build not only nuclear plants but nuclear weapons, because that is the only way the rest of the world will learn if they can use them too. USA obviously was mad enough to use theirs. Let's see who else is mad enough :-> I really don't think Iranians are that mad, or even willing to be written on the same list with USA... the only two countries ever having used nuclear weapons against another nation...

Also, don't you think Israel has nuclear weapons? Don't you think Tehran would stop existing the minute Tel Aviv stopped existing? I do. And... Tehran has no capacity what so ever to deal with that. Tel Aviv does, as Israel has been living under the very real threat against its existance since before it even existed. What if the Irani people are not as stupid as you seem to think they are? What if they are actually aware of such little things as nuclear fallout and their own poor capacity to deal with such things?

Also, don't you think the old Soviet nuclear weapons have already been sold to practically every Arabic countries? I do.

BTW, Israel hasn't only been "legally punishing" terrorists. With your twisted ideas of preventive punishments (hey, why not just kill off everyone, to be sure that no-one, ever, does anything illegal? It would work.) it's of course ok to punish the criminals' parents, siblings, cousins and friends, but it really is against the Human Rights. Of course Israel has the right to build any kind of walls around its borders, but... where do the borders go, actually? Israel has no right to go to Palestinian land to build walls, neither has Israel right to set up roadblocks in foreign countries. Of course Israel has the right to not allow anything to be transported on their land, but they have no right to tell Jordan or Egypt what they may or not may transport to their neighbors. It really isn't Israel's business, if who ever sells Palestine what ever. Of course people die in any armed conflict, even if it's "just" a gang war or police intervention. But what about the violations of people's civil and human rights? Why are the Negev Bedouins being harassed? The list goes on and on...

Israel is not a perfect country with snow-white human rights record, and everyone should have enough honor to acknowledge this.

Nevertheless, that is totally irrelevant. The question should not be if Israel DESERVES to exist or be destroyed. Israel has the right to exist - if not for anything else, then for the mere fact that Israel exists and has existed for over 50 years. I happen to believe in the right of Nations to self-determination; and that is why I believe Israel has the right to exist, and where it exists. In fact, as I do believe in the right to self-determination, I believe there SHOULD be an independent state of Palestine without Israel's interference, and I believe the Iranians should be free to decide whom they war with and with what means. USA, the least of all, has any right to try to limit this, as it has practically been at war with someone since 19th century. No wonder they are flying the wartime flag...
